VA'RIOLITE, n. [L. varius and Gr. stone.] In mineralogy, a kind of porphyritic rock, in which the imbedded substances are imperfectly crystallized, or are rounded, giving the stone a spotted appearance.Variolites are fragments of primitive gladular rocks.
